Cornelius McCarthy - Pond Edge
Cornelius McCarthy (1935-2009) est un des peintres anglais de nu masculin les plus renommés dans la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle. Formé au Goldsmiths College dans les années 1950, il a été grandement influencé par le travail de Pablo Picasso suite à la première grande exposition d’après-guerre à Londres en 1960. Plus tard, McCarthy a été influencé par l’artiste britannique Keith Vaughan.
Mais McCarthy était un homme profond, et un bourreau de travail. Toujours à peindre, il a développé son propre style, un style qui présentait ses sujets masculins comme des individus à part entière. Son travail est caractérisé par un solide sens de la composition et l’utilisation d’éléments de nature morte qui donnent souvent une sensation « cubiste » à ses peintures.
