Hamo Thornycroft - athlète jetant une pierre - 1880
William Hamo Thornycroft, né le 9 mars 1850 et mort le 18 décembre 1925, est le sculpteur britannique qui a réalisé en 1881 l'œuvre majeure : « Teucer », bronze de 44cm de haut, magnifique archer nu.
Il a sculpté de nombreuses statues visibles principalement à Londres. Il fut l’un des plus jeunes membres de la Royal Academy (élu en 1882), peut-être en raison de son solide héritage familial : son père, sa mère et son grand-père furent également sculpteurs.
Tout au long de sa vie il a réalisé de nombreuses autres statues représentant des splendides nus masculins.
